Some projects you jump in feet first while your logic disappears in your heart ignoring both costs and considerations. This was the case with our involvement in launching AFAO’s inaugural art auction, along with an exhibit depicting the death of three African women and their ‘Fall of Sparrows’ - their children facing their Mother’s death and their own fate of becoming orphaned like the millions of other African orphans facing survival alone.
The black and white photography was heart wrenching by an award-winning African photojournalist. Our client, a dedicated humanitarian, is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever met with an outstanding venue, the Elliott Louis Gallery, provided by a magnanimous Ted Lederer. All proceeds went to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Fall of Sparrows hospice.
Ours was the first of many AFAO annual auctions, but this one remains the most magical for those fortunate enough to experience the unspoken philanthropic energy that swirled through the clear starlit Vancouver night enveloping a sense of peace in our African hearts.
